Here are a couple ideas for lyrics that I've jotted down here and there.

Lyric 1:
To all the wounds reopened again and again,
To all the wounds that have been sewn back up,
For all those who have committed a sin,
For all who want to turn it back around,

I have your hope.
Hope in peace,
Hope in love,
I'll get you through.
For I am the rescuer,
Please don't be afraid.

I know it has been hard,
I know that it still is,
But the light at the end of the tunnel,
Has begun to seep in.
Seep into you veins,
Into your tattered soul,
Filling in the hollow again,
Giving you your wings.

Lyric 2:
That one wrong turn that's lead you to dead ends,
Was the one you had to choose.
Did it have more color?
Was it the easiest way to go?
Or did someone force you down this road?
I know its hurt you,
But know that it's hurt me too.

You know I'll always love you,
You know I'll always care,
I'll always have forgiveness.
I hate the sin,
But I'll always love the sinner.

I hope to make you think back to some of the things we have written about on our blog through these songs. I tried to make references like "I am the rescuer" and "Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner".
Could you sense the connection in my lyrics? If so (or not so) please leave a comment!

  • The way you incorporate Gandhi's quote in these lyrics that felt to me to focus more on your organization was brilliant. You made a seemless connection with deep meaning. These lyrics really made me think and I think they represent your resilient organization and person well, while at the same time, they have a universal feel that makes them easy to relate to on a personal level. I would love to see you take your music and spoken word out to a larger audience. I encourage you to check out some local music/spoken word talent that perform at Elevated (where Thali Mugambi, who performed for our class performs and works). Would you be willing to perform your own work there?

    Keep writing!
