In the resilience cafe project, I really learned a lot about Gandhi, Gandhi's quotes and especially about the To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) organization. Since TWLOHA was a brand new organization, and barely started about a year ago, I was definitely more curious about what it really is all about. I knew about it before because a lot of musicians that I'm interested in support the cause, but I really didn't know the content behind it and that they support people that have problems with depression, drugs, and alchohol. So I've researched more about it, and about Gandhi also. I really thought his quotes were truly inspiring, and I'll probably continue reading and looking for more inspiring words.
Presenting my guitar that I've re-created wasn't at all hard for me. I really liked what I've done and I'm proud of it, so it was real easy for me to present my work to people and other students. Also, I'll probably be hanging it up on a wall somewhere in the 8th grade commons, this way, I will always be able to view what I've accomplished and to share it for others. They can take it down and play it also.
The page in the book that I've writtened about my artwork was done greatly, and to be honest, I think I've actually possibly at least met or even exceeded some of mine and maybe others' expectations for this project because I've received a lot of positive feedback about my work and what I was doing.

My artistic piece, which is a guitar represents Gandhi through his quotes and To Write Love on Her Arms through music. I have painted on quotes in several sides and a portrait of Gandhi on the back of the guitar besides the “To Write Love On Her Arms“ logo, along with a microphone on the top. The reason why I chose to represent them through quotes and music is because I believed that they had a lot of hope, and the only way they could make themselves and for others believe it too is through their words. To Write Love on Her Arms is greatly supported by many musicians, and that’s why I connected them with a guitar.

My music piece focuses more on the "To Write Love On Her Arms" side of our project, probably because of the stronger connection I have with it. I did put one major Gandhi reference in the lyrics by using his quote "Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner" to influence a part of the chorus. I also tried to make my lyrics sound more like a conversation you want to have with your friend, but you can’t seem to get it out. I've been in situations like this before, and I tried to recapture that emotion I felt to put in this song.

I personally connect with the two resilient individuals because I've always been the type to live a peaceful life. I'd never want anything to get into my way of happiness. To me, Gandhi and the To Write Love on Her Arms organization are really inspirational. They've said words that could practically change the world and that means a lot. From all the violence and aggression happening, I see that people have hard times trying to understand each other, but I've always found that music brings at least the slightest togetherness. That's why I've chosen to re-create the guitar that Ms. Staff provided me and my partner. As I read through most of Gandhi's quotes, I realized that really connect with what he says and believes in. He was always just looking for forgiveness, and knows that people are worth forgiving for the mistakes they've done. I certainly know that I always always always make mistakes, and sometimes I've been put down by people, but I try not to let it get to me, and if it does, I just remember Gandhi's words, and that To Write Love on Her Arms would rather have me move on and try to hope for the best, then rather harm myself or anyone.

My strongest connection to either of our resilient figures is my link with the "To Write Love On Her Arms" foundation. I've known several people who have dealt with some of the problems they support. Since I've found out about this organization, I've done what I can to support it by getting the word out to more people, and letting people know about the statistics they have posted like, how about 15% of people in America suffer from depression, and 2/3 of them never get help. I have a slight connection to Gandhi as well. Over the years I have learned about him here and there, and I have always really enjoyed it. I think that his message was really great, and if people would continue with his peace making the world would be a much better one.

Here are the same lyrics as below, but edited, added to, and torn to pieces and put back together again. Please leave a comment with your thoughts!

Lyric 1:
To all the wounds reopened again and again,
To all the wounds that have been sewn back up,
For all those who have committed a sin,
For all who want to turn it back around,

I have your hope.
Hope in peace,
Hope in love,
I'll get you through.
For I am the rescuer,
Please don't be afraid.

When I look at you and all I see are your tears.
My stomach lurches and then my tears pull,
I can't stand to see you in so much pain,
Pain that not any one person should deal with.

I have your hope.
Hope in peace,
Hope in love,
I'll get you through.
For I am the rescuer,
Please don't be afraid.

I know it has been hard,
I know that it still is,
But the light at the end of the tunnel,
Has begun to seep in.
Seep into you veins,
Into your tattered soul,
Filling in the hollow again,
Giving you your wings.

I am the rescuer
I am the rescuer
I am the rescuer
I am your personal rescuer.

Lyric 2:
That one wrong turn that's lead you to dead ends,
Was the one you had to choose.
Did it have more color?
Was it the easiest way to go?
Or did someone force you down this road?
I know it hurts you,
But know that it hurts me too.

You know I'll always love you,
You know I'll always care,
I'll always have forgiveness.
I might hate the sin,
But I'll always love the sinner.

Your road had twists and turns plus ups and downs,
It threw you around, slamed you against walls,
You've gone through it all
And you swear it didn't hurt one bit,
What you say can't cover up those bruises
The cuts are still there too,
Digging into your hurt soul.

You know I'll always love you,
You know I'll always care,
I'll always have forgiveness.
I might hate the sin,
But I'll always love the sinner.
I'll alway love you sinner.

Today in class, when we had to walk around and look at each others blueprints, I've got to say that there were a lot of really creative ideas. Now when I received my feedback, I noticed that there seemed to be a lot more positive then helpful, which is greatly appreciated, it's always nice to know that people really like your thoughts and ideas. Though there were some helpful and specific feedback, but to be honest, they weren't really as helpful to me as I thought they would be, and some of the 'helpful feedback' was already something we've noticed before and was planning to change already. There was one really helpful specifc feedback that I thought was brilliant, and something I could do to make my artistic creation a little better. Someone said that since one of the quotes on the guitar said "Stop the Bleeding", they suggested red paint [to resemble the blood] dripping down from the soundhole. Thanks to the feedback that was given today for the "Gandhi Guitar" blueprint, I really feel confident in how our final piece will turn out.
